Phytochemistry 101 for Cosmetic Chemists
This is a rapid course in Phytochemistry which will cover the general chemistry of Natural Products from plants for Skin health application. This course will be of great interest to cosmetic scientists, formulators, analytical scientists, chemists & biochemists who want to enhance their knowledge and capabilities using botanical ingredients in product development. It is assumed that the students attending this course will already have some basic knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry.
About the speaker
Jat Rana, Ph.D., CChem; FRSC – Obtained his Masters and Ph.D. in Applied Organic Chemistry from the University of Birmingham, England (UK) in 1981. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Glasgow, Scotland (1981-1983) and University of Minnesota from 1983-1986 performing Research in the areas of Bio-Synthetic pathways of Natural Products. He worked at Sigma-Aldrich Corp from 1987-1996 specialization in Radio-synthesis of Organic molecules for the pharmaceutical Industry applications. In 1996 he joined the R&D group of Amway Corporation working on the development of Nutrition and topical ingredients for the Health & Skin Applications. He has published several peer reviewed papers latest being in, J. of cosmetic science 2013, 64(6):445-53 “Inhibition of melanin content by Punicalagins in the super fruit pomegranate (Punica granatum)”. Jat is an Active member of Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC), International Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC), Member of American Chemical Society (ACS), and Asian Congress of Nutrition (ACN). He has chaired many Scientific Sessions at the National and International level. He has presented several oral presentations as an invited speakers at the Scientific Meetings such as World Pharma Nutra Conference, American Chemical Society and Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
